On June 22, 2025, the Oklahoma City Thunder captured their first NBA title since relocating from Seattle, defeating the Indiana Pacers 103–91 in a decisive Game 7 of the NBA Finals at the Paycom Center. This victory marked the franchise’s first championship since 1979 and capped off one of the most dominant seasons in recent NBA history.
The highly anticipated clash took a dramatic turn early, when Tyrese Haliburton, Indiana’s star point guard, exited the game just minutes into the first quarter after a non-contact leg injury. He had already knocked down three of his first four three-pointers, and his sudden absence left the Indiana Pacers scrambling. Indiana committed 23 turnovers, leading to 32 Thunder points, and never fully recovered offensively.
Despite a tightly contested first half—OKC led just 48–47 at the break—the Thunder erupted in the third quarter. Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams led a surge that extended the lead to 81–68 by the end of the period. Oklahoma City then opened the fourth with a crushing 9–0 run, putting the game out of reach. Holmgren delivered a dominant performance with 18 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 blocks, while Williams added 20 points.
But the night belonged to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who scored 29 points and dished 12 assists, earning Finals MVP honors. With this title, SGA completed a rare trifecta—Regular Season MVP, Scoring Champion, and Finals MVP—becoming the first player to do so since LeBron James in 2013.
The Oklahoma City Thunder wrapped up the season with a 68–14 record, one of the best in league history, and became one of the youngest rosters ever to win an NBA title. For the Indiana Pacers, their incredible run to their first-ever Finals appearance ended in heartbreak, but not without showcasing their potential.
This Game 7 will be remembered not only for its historic implications, but for the emergence of a new dynasty in Oklahoma City.
